5 Scary Home Decor choices that are sure to send a shiver down your spine.

Oversized spiders on the bushes and creepy clowns in the windows aren't the only things to cause bloodcurdling screams this Halloween. As I help clients find their dream home there are a number of scary home decor choices that send house hunters (and me!) running every time. Here are the top 5 "all trick and no treat" home decor choices.

5. Mirrored walls

Holy mirrors, Batman! We've all heard that a large mirror can go a long way to adding depth to a room, so how about a wall of mirrors? As the saying goes, there can be too much of a good thing. This is much more popular then you might think. But unfortunately, the mirrored wall can make your home feel like a funhouse. Not exactly ideal.

4. Vertical Blinds

Ok, so I realize that some 90's fashion trends are coming back. I was surprised to hear my granddaughter tell me she wanted a 90's-style plastic stretchy choker for her birthday this year. I couldn't help but think, "Really, those again!?" I gave in and bought them. But I will never give in to vertical blinds! Can we please leave the 90's home decor trends behind?

3. Popcorn ceiling

Textured ceilings have got to go. And even worse than a popcorn ceiling? A popcorn ceiling with a terrible patch job. Do I really need to say more?

2. Boarders

I have to admit my first house had wallpaper borders, but that was a long time ago, so I have an excuse. Wallpaper borders make a house look very outdated. After all, they were "in" in the '80s and 90's, then found only in children's nurseries. But honestly, even for nurseries, let's leave them behind. Think about it, if you go with a more contemporary nursey no need to redecorate in five or six years. Win/Win!

1. A Bathroom... without the room

I am all about a master bathroom, but when you put the bath in the master bedroom it's an absolute nightmare. You have no idea how many times I have seen a toilet or a tub in a bedroom with no walls around it. Is this office/bathroom combo convenient? Sure! Worth it? Not at all.

So let's leave all the scary stuff to Halloween, shall we?
